RE: Woodland Middle School Board Report

School Improvement Work and Recognition:

Here at Woodland Middle School we have had and have on the horizon a number of recent events and activities, highlighting both student and staff achievements as well as the strong sense of community we continue to build. One of our focuses this year has been centered around "The Energy Bus" and continuing to move our "bus" [school] forward together in support of our students and staff.

Over the past few weeks, our school has been buzzing with energy as we celebrated Homecoming Week. Students and staff alike participated in various spirit days, fostering a sense of pride and unity across our campus. We are also kicking off our annual PTSA Walk-A-Thon on October 18th, with students showing up in full force, decked out in pink to support this year’s “Pink Out” theme. These events are not only fun for students but serve as key opportunities for team-building and community engagement.

In addition to these events, our staff continues to demonstrate their dedication to student success. We’ve continued our monthly "Positive Postcards," where staff members highlight the efforts of students, which are then sent home to recognize their achievements. This initiative has been well-received by students and families, further strengthening the home-school connection. Moreover, our Trojan Leadership students attended the AWSL Fall Leadership Retreat, where they collaborated with peers from neighboring districts, developing key leadership skills. Our PBIS system remains a strong focus, with several staff members being recognized for their contributions to creating a positive school environment.

Looking back at the past few weeks, we’ve seen significant progress at Woodland Middle School. Our staff has been actively involved in supervision during lunch and Free 15, which has greatly improved student behavior and engagement during unstructured times. Our custodians were also recognized on National Custodians Day (10/3), a well-deserved acknowledgment of their tireless efforts to maintain a clean and safe environment for students and staff. The spirit of teamwork is evident across all areas of the school, from Crocktoberfest, where staff came together for a community meal, to our continued focus on instructional support and student interventions. Woodland Middle School remains committed to fostering academic growth, student well-being, and a sense of belonging for every member of our school community.

I also wanted to shout out our board in support of developing our new personal electronics device policy which has already supported our students in being more focused and helped around our campus in so many ways. Thank you!!

Thank you for your continued support of Woodland Middle School as we work towards achieving our goals for the year.
