RE: Summary of Teaching and Learning - CTE
December was a busy month in the CTE arena. Rose Meng has filled Joan Huston’s position. She comes to us with a Bachelors’ in Business Administration from Portland State University and a Masters in Teaching from Concordia University. She will officially take over the class on January 28, but will be transitioning with Joan for a week in January.
Kimberly Miller’s Skills USA club competed in the High School Ninja Competition at the Portland Culinary Institute in December. The team consisting of Patrique Wheaton, Adam Miller, Makayla Holland and Lucia Perez 3rd place. The other teams were all from skills centers (two of them with a four year culinary programs and 700 students). Our team did very well and each student was awarded a $500 tuition waver to Oregon Culinary Institute. Below is the link to the OCI photo stream showing the pictures they posted.
The WHS culinary and floral programs catered and provided floral arrangements for the South West Washington Association of Vocational Administrators (WAVA) on December 19. The food, flowers, and service was exceptional. Unfortunately Kim Miller slipped on the ice after this event and broke her leg. I am still working on finding a long –term substitute for this position.
This year’s applications for framework and course re-approval are all submitted and I currently waiting for feedback from OSPI. Any new course offerings will for next year need to be submitted by April1, 2014.
