Woodland Athletics Are Back in Full Swing

Local EP&O levy funding has transformed athletics at Woodland School District. During the 2023-24 school year, Woodland Middle School was unable to offer any school-sanctioned sports. At the high school level, student athletes had to arrange their own transportation to all away athletic events, which created barriers for families and limited participation.

This year has seen a full return of middle school athletics with reduced costs for families and transportation at both Woodland Middle and High Schools, removing barriers that previously limited student participation.

Woodland School District is proud to be able to offer a comprehensive range of sports across our middle and high schools.

Woodland Middle School now offers:

  • Fall: Cross country, football, boys' golf, girls' soccer, and volleyball
  • 91porn: Wrestling and boys' and girls' basketball
  • Spring: Track and field (co-ed), boys' soccer, and girls' golf

Woodland High School now offers the same sports as above, plus:

  • Fall: Cheerleading and Dance teams
  • 91porn: Competitive Cheerleading and Competitive Dance
  • Spring: Baseball and fastpitch softball

The benefits of a comprehensive athletics program extend well beyond physical fitness. The school community has observed a direct connection between athletic participation and academic performance.

"Athletics are paramount not only to a student's sense of belonging, but also are directly tied to greater academic scores and overall accountability," explains Taylor Adrian, Woodland School District Athletic Director. "Because athletics are an extracurricular 'opt in,' we are able to hold high expectations for our student athletes, and there is generally a greater incentive for those participating to meet the standard because they want to play."

This fosters a collaborative system of support, where coaches, teachers, and teammates all work together to encourage academic success.

Athletic programs also provide safe after-school environments that contribute positively to the mental health of our students.

"A monitored, supervised, and safe after-school extracurricular is a win-win for everybody, and athletics provide that option," shared Taylor Adrian.

The athletic opportunities restored through local levy funding are creating measurable academic improvements, fostering school pride, and providing students with meaningful opportunities for engagement. The jerseys you see around town, the games filling the bleachers, and the improved report cards coming home are a clear display of strong community support for student success.
