RE: Woodland High School Board Report

1) School Improvement Plan

Here is an update to a graph I shared last time:

I included a version of this graph in our last board report. This year is the green line and it represents the percentage of students overall who have 1 or more failing grade. In January we tied our 22-23 mark at 20.1%, falling behind our 23-24 mark by 1.9%. Isolating just the 9th graders, 18 students finished the semester with 1 or more F’s, which amounts to a semester 1 rate of 9th graders on track of 92%.

You might notice that the green line stayed consistently lower throughout the first semester rather than suddenly plunging down right at the last minute as the semester ended. This likely indicates that students are doing a pretty good job so far this year at not falling way behind.

You might also notice that the green line suddenly jumped way up in February. This is mostly because February is only halfway through and there aren’t many grades recorded in most teachers’ gradebooks. Missing 1 assignment results in a big drop in percentages. That said, we certainly are keeping an eye on that.

2)  Recognition

December is a month to enjoy the season. WHS staff continue to go above and beyond to build joy and capacity into our building. I’ve included some photos to illustrate 3 examples.

Getting our kids into the world to run elbows with our community leaders has been a consistent strength of WHS. Last time I shared some photos of Shari Conditt’s Civic Power Hour. This time, I want to highlight Kendra Pearce’s FFA kids, who got a chance to meet and talk with Representative Glusenkamp.

Last weekend, the WHS dance team traveled to Florida to compete in their national competition. They missed out on reaching the finals by one point. According to Coach Andria Terry “The girls did the best dancing they’ve ever done. They learned so much about themselves and how much they can really accomplish when they really push.” I’ve included some pictures of the competition.

3) Upcoming Events

3-3 8th grade parent informational night

3-5 through 3-8 2A girls’ basketball state tournament

3-25 through 3-28 Student-led conferences
