With the passage of the Fedaral Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, we are required to increase school meal prices for the 2011–12 school year. Section 204 of this act establishes a new provision, Equity in School Lunch Pricing. This provision is effective July 1, 2011. Basically, it states that the average selling price for a paid, reimbursable lunch must be equal to or more than the difference between the total federal reimbursement for free lunch and the total federal reimbursement for paid lunch (currently $2.46).ÌýÌý
We are not required to close the gap in pricing immediately. Rather we can do it incrementally in steps of 10 cents each year. We are proposing the following changes to lunch pricing:
Elementary (K-6)Â Current: $1.75Â Proposed: $1.85
Secondary (7-12) Current: $2.00Â Proposed: $2.10
Administrative Recommendation:Â /MOTION/Â I move we approve the proposed lunch prices for 2011-2012 as presented.
