If it is supplementary, what is your basic text? This is a semester-long drama and senior English class for which there is no single textbook. Students read 10-minute plays written by other students, professionally authored 10-minute plays, and a play by Shakespeare as part of this class. . How did you become aware of this material? (Professional journals, salesman, publishers catalog, know someone who has used it, used material before, etc.) I took a week-long summer workshop at University of Wisconsin, Madison in the summer of 2013. The workshop was on teaching the 10-minute play and was offered by a woman who had been teaching 10-minute playwriting to middle and high school students for many years. This book was required as part of the class and was offered to us as a great resource for teaching students. What other materials did you consider? I was guided by the expertise of the workshop leader who directed us to this book. I did not read other books on playwriting as part of the selection process. In what ways is this material better than the other materials? (Text format, organization content, unbiased content concerning minorities and women, teachers guide, workbooks, etc.) This book is succinct. It gets its ideas across clearly and swiftly. It includes explanations and checklists, making it both thorough and easy to access. The style is engaging and fun to read. How does this material fit the students learning objectives for the subject area? As part of this class, students author a 10-minute play. I have taught this unit for three years now, and it has been highly successful each time. This book directly addresses the concerns that a writer would have when writing a play. Here is a sampling of the chapter headings: Dialogue, Character, Plot, Sets, and Format. How does this material ensure continuity with the Districts overall program? This material helps students to be successful in developing skills at communicating with an audience. Page 2 Instructional Materials Committee Evaluation Form cont.
